Joe Biden becomes 47th President-elect of the US, media outlets project

Democratic nominee Kamala Harris joins him as the first female, Black-Asian Vice-President in US history.

Joe Biden has been declared the next President of the United States by major media outlets after a gruelling 3 days of counting votes for the presidential election. The Associated Press announced Biden’s victory over President Donald Trump after calling his win in Pennsylvania. Winning the 20 electoral votes from the state pulls Biden ahead of the 270-votes threshold required to be met to win the presidency. With this win projected, Biden has acquired 290 electoral votes against Trump’s 214.

Additionally, Kamala Harris is set to become the first female, Black and Asian Vice-President of the United States.

Soon after this decisive announcement across major American media platforms like CNN and NBC, representatives of Donald Trump refuted the claims and declared the election to be “far from over.”

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed,” wrote Donald Trump—hours after declaring himself the winner of the election in a tweet that was flagged as “misinformation” by Twitter.

Donald Trump has refused to concede defeat in the presidential race, stating: “Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor.”

As per media reports, no legitimate incidents of voter-fraud have been recorded during the election.

While the result has not been officially endorsed by secretaries of state and electors, the Associate Press and other media outlets only announce the winner when there is no further possibility of the alternate candidate winning.

Of the three states where ballots are still being counted, Biden is ahead in two: Georgia and Nevada.

With all the information available, Biden’s victory in the election is decisive. After his third run in the presidential race, he is to become the 46th President of the United States of America. He is also the fifteenth former Vice-President to go on to be President. At nearly, he will also be the oldest President in US history.

Biden and Harris will formally take office on 20th January 2020.
