Israel kills four Palestinians in occupied West Bank

Israeli troops have killed four Palestinians in raids on Sunday in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian health ministry said that four Palestinians had been killed in two raids in the central and northern West Bank.

In a statement, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of execution against their people.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett who was En route to New York to address the UN General Assembly on Monday said that the operation was aimed against Hamas men who were “about to carry out terrorist attacks”.

Bennett added the Israeli forces had engaged the enemy, and the government back them completely.

An Israeli military spokesperson while commenting on the shootout said that they have killed four Hamas members in a ‘serious confrontation’ that took place in the early hours of Sunday months.

The spokesperson said, “Three Hamas terrorists were killed in crossfire in the village of Biddu, southeast of Ramallah”

He added that one was killed in another part of the West Bank adding that 4 of them were also captured.

The executions have since threatened and raised security concerns in the territory and along the Israeli border with Gaza.

Israeli officials have long voiced concern that Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip, intends to gain strength in the West Bank and challenge the Israeli officials there.

Israel captured the West Bank and Gaza in a 1967 war. It withdrew troops and settlers from the Gaza Strip in 2005.

The Palestinian Authority (PA), which seeks a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza exercises limited self-rule in the territory under interim peace deals with Israel.
