Iran to conduct tests of locally produced drones

Iran has launched test flights of a wide range of indigenously produced drones on Tuesday.

During the two-day exercises, Iranian Armed Forces will test combat drones used as bombers, interceptors and in reconnaissance missions in central Semnan province, the Fars news agency reported.

US officials claimed Iranian drones could drop munitions and carry out a “kamikaze” flight when loaded with explosives and flown into a target.

Iran has developed domestic arms industry as international sanctions and embargoes had barred it from importing weapons.

Iran and its regional allies – Yemen, Syria and Iraq – rely heavily on drones.

Western military analysts claim that Iran often exaggerates its weapons capabilities, though the US has shown concerns about its long-range ballistic missile programme.
