Iran not to be deterred, says commander on first death anniversary of General Soleimani

Esmail Ghaani said on Friday that Iran was still in a position to respond to its enemy’s moves.

Iran will not be cowed down by the incidents like the killing of General Qassem Soleimani, says a senior commander of the armed forces, Esmail Ghaani, as Tehran is going to observe his first death anniversary on January 3.

General Soleimani, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, was killed in a drone attack on January 3 in Iraq. The United States accused him of masterminding attacks on its forces stationed in the Arab region.

Ghaani said on Friday that Iran was still in a position to respond to its enemy’s moves.

Speaking at an event to mark the anniversary at Tehran University that was aired on television, he warned that there could be retaliation from “within you.” Such acts would not deter the Quds force from carrying on its resistance path, Ghaani continued.

Meanwhile, two US B-52 bombers flew over the Middle East in what US officials said was a message of deterrence to Iran.

Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, in a statement, has accused President Donald Trump of fabricating an excuse to attack Iran. Iran can defend itself, he added.

Representatives from Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Gaza also spoke at functions held on the occasion of General Soleimani’s death anniversary.
