The federal industries ministry has set the retail price of sugar at Rs88.24 per kilogram.
According to a notification issued by the ministry the price included all taxes and costs.
The new price would remain effective until November 15, the notification said.
Sugar is in the list of essential commodities and this decision is made in the public interest, the notification added.
The sugar mills failed to voluntarily bring down the prices of sugar which surged to Rs100 per kilogram from Rs90 per kilogram.
The notification said that the ex-mill prices were shown to be Rs88.24. According to the Federal Board of Revenue data, this included profit margin as well.
