IHC sends contempt notices to 17 lawyers for vandalising court building

The Islamabad High Court also sent a reference to the Islamabad Bar Council to revoke the licenses of the protesting lawyers.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued contempt of court notices to 17 lawyers who were involved in vandalising the IHC building on Monday.

On Mondays, lawyers had barged into the IHC premises and broken the windows of Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah’s office in protest of the demolition of their chambers by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The CDA had demolished the lawyers’ illegally build chambers on Sunday night.

A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against 300 lawyers, while 22 lawyers were named under terrorism provisions. The IHC also sent a reference to the Islamabad Bar Council to revoke the licenses of the protesting lawyers.

The lawyers, in their violent protest, had also chanted slogans against the IHC Chief Justice. Contempt of court notices have now been issued against the offending lawyers.
