The third T20 International between the West Indies and Pakistan was washed out after a mere eight balls of the hosts’ innings due to heavy rain at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, on Sunday.
The players were forced to leave the field just six minutes into the match with the hosts at 15 after opting to bat first after winning the toss.
In the eight deliveries that were possible, Andre Fletcher found time to smack two sixes from the six balls he faced – one each of Mohammad Hafeez and Mohammad Wasim. Fletcher got stuck into Hafeez, walloping him over long-on, before swinging Wasim over the bowler’s head. That turned out to be the final delivery before the heavens opened up again.
The rain stopped almost one-and-a-half hours later with the covers taken off soon after as prospects of a five or six-overs shootout brightened. But an inspection 17 minutes prior to the cut-off time put paid to any hopes of play, with one part of the ground still relatively wet.
The abandoned fixture ensured at least a drawn series for Pakistan who would now head into the fourth and final match of the series at the same venue on Tuesday. The five-match T20I series was reduced to four matches after the West Indies One-day International against Australia was rescheduled.
Pakistan won the second T20I by seven runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Meanwhile, for the third match, Pakistan made only one change; bringing fast bowler Haris Rauf for Shaheen Afridi.
