Govt mulls subsidising petrol price for low-income strata

The government is contemplating subsidy on petrol to those earning less than Rs35,000 per month.

According to the Petroleum Division, details of the people seeking subsidy would be taken from NADRA regarding their income, housing and family data.

The Petroleum Division has also suggested that people above the age of 35 and professional bikers should not be eligible for the subsidy.

According to an estimate, there are more than 17. 5 motorcycles in the country for which the fuel subsidy will be between Rs20 billion and Rs40 billion.

Approval for subsidy will be sought from Prime Minister Imran Khan.

PETROL PRICE: It may be recalled that on October 16, the government hiked the prices of petrol by Rs10.49 per liter to Rs 137.79 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs12.44 per liter to Rs 134.48.
