Govt increases petrol price again, effective from August 1

The federal government announced new prices for petroleum products which would be effective from August 1.

Special Assistant to the PM on political affairs, Dr Shahbaz Gill, said on Twitter that the government will jack up the price of petrol by Rs1.71 per litre.

The proposal to increase the diesel rate was rejected because an increase in diesel price adversely affects the common man and farmer.

From August 1 onwards, petrol will be sold at Rs119.80/litre, diesel at Rs116.53/litre, LDO at Rs84.67/litre, and kerosene oil Rs85.75/litre.

“The average petrol price in the world is $1.19 per litre dollar while it is only $0.72/litre in Pakistan,” added the SAPM.

Dr Shahbaz Gill further said, “The government is collecting zero tax on petroleum products despite the fact that the whole world has been facing inflation due to Covid-19.”

As per the sources, OGRA’s proposal regarding future oil prices has been received. The proposal suggests increasing Rs1.71/litre for petrol, Rs0.24/litre for light diesel oil, and Rs0.35/litre for kerosene oil.

OGRA has also suggested a reduction in high-speed diesel prices by Rs2.27/litre
