Gen Bajwa meets MBS to discuss Afghan peace process, security ties

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday called on Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman and Deputy Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman in Jeddah.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security situation, including recent developments in the Afghan Peace Process, bilateral defence, security, collaboration for regional peace, and connectivity were discussed.

The army chief said that Pakistan was resolute in its commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia and defence of the Two Holy Mosques.

The Saudi crown prince acknowledged Pakistan’s role towards regional peace and stability. He said that the relations between the Kingdom and Pakistan were based on bonds of brotherhood and mutual trust, adding that both nations will continue to play their part for peace, stability, and betterment of Muslim Ummah.

On Wednesday, Gen Bajwa had called on Lieutenant General Fayyad Al-Ruwaili, the army chief of the Saudi armed forces in Riyadh. During the meeting, defence, security, and military to military cooperation were discussed.

The COAS had emphasised the need to further enhance military to military cooperation between the two armed forces and said that Pakistan-Saudi cooperation will have a positive impact on peace and security in the region.

The Saudi army chief had thanked Bajwa for his sentiments and assured full cooperation and support from Saudis in all initiatives aimed at improving regional cooperation, peace, and stability.
