Federal Cabinet set to take ‘policy decision’ on ties with France

The Federal Cabinet is set to decide what direction Pakistan’s relationship with France will take in light of the country’s blasphemous content. Pakistan’s decision to officially boycott French products will also be finalized.
On the directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the cabinet will take up a petition calling for Pakistan to cut off diplomatic relations with France while also discussing other matters on Tuesday

IHC’s Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani had directed the Cabinet division secretary to prioritize the petition in the cabinet, which sought to cut off ties with France.

Justice Kayani noted that the government had condemned the act and that the French ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office while the parliament had also passed a resolution.

The court observed that the question raised in the petition was related to a policy decision. Subsequently, it converted the petition into representation and directed that it be placed in the cabinet before disposal.
