The federal government on Tuesday appointed Dr Muhammad Ashfaq as the new Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). This is the seventh change made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in three years of tenure.
Before this appointment, Ashfaq Ahmed was serving as the Director-General, International Taxes in the FBR.
Ashfaq will replace Asim Ahmed who assumed the charge on April 9, 2021 and was brought in by Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin.
Just after assuming the office, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan as the Chairman FBR. He was replaced by Syed Shabbar Zaidi in January 2019 ad continued till January 2020.
Zaidi was first replaced by Nausheen Javaid Amjad as an Acting Chairman but was soon given the charge permanently. She assumed the office for a period of four months. She was replaced by Muhammad Javed Ghani who took over in July 2020 and served till April 2021.
