Faisal Vawda declared eligible to contest upcoming Senate elections

The Sindh High Court election tribunal has dismissed the petition challenging the Senate nomination papers of Faisal Vawda

KARACHI: On Tuesday, the Sindh High Court election tribunal dismissed the petition filed against Federal Minister Faisal Vawda’s nomination papers for the Senate elections and declared him eligible to contest the polls.

A few days back, Advocate Qadir Khan Mandokhail challenged the returning officer’s decision to approve Vawda’s nomination papers. The petition said that returning officer’s actions were illegal and unconstitutional.

In today’s proceedings, Qadir Khan told the court that Vawda doesn’t deserve to hold any public office as he didn’t disclose his US citizenship. On this ground, his ticket should be cancelled.

During the proceeding, the tribunal upheld Vawda’s nomination papers and rejected Mandokhail’s appeal. The tribunal has said that the appellant can file a constitutional petition if he wants.

Faisal Vawda has been under fire since being nominated for Senate elections. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leadership from Sindh has also expressed its reservations on this.
