‘Extreme cold weather emergency’ declared in KP

The Provincial authorities, Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement (RRS) Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declared an extreme weather emergency in the province amid alarming levels of snow and rainfall in several parts of KP. Due to the emergency, free food and shelter is to be provided to the homeless.

“This extraordinary cold wave is taking the form of a disaster which is likely to threaten lives of needy people who are without shelter, without food and without warm bedding,” the RSS department stated.

Deputy commissioners, in the wake of this situation, have been instructed to provide the needy with Rs. 500: Rs. 100 for breakfast, and Rs 200 each for lunch and dinner.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also predicted an upcoming winter spell in Karachi, which could break the seven-year-record in the provincial capital.
