Everything you need to know about COVID-19 vaccination in Pakistan

The head of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Asad Umar on Wednesday announced the opening of registration for people aged 19 and above from tomorrow.

If anyone wants to get registered for the COVID-19 vaccination drive, you can follow these simple steps below.

You can simply message your 13 digit Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), without spaces and dashes, on 1166.

For those who have an internet connection can get registered by visiting the NIMS website, where you will be greeted with a registration screen on which you can enter their personal details. Please take care to provide a valid phone number.

The government will share the vaccination centre and date for the vaccination on the registered phone number.

After receiving the registration details on your provided phone number, visit any nearest vaccination centre and get the first dose of the vaccine.

Vaccines administered in Pakistan

Currently, Sinopharm, Sinovac, CanSino Bio and AstraZeneca (above age 40) are being administered to citizens. It is pertinent to mention that many countries around the world are not accepting Chinese vaccines. However, nothing has been said in this regard by the Pakistani authorities till now.

On Sunday, a PIA plane brought the Sinovac vaccine to Islamabad from China. Pakistan has so far obtained 13million doses of coronavirus vaccines.

On May 9, Pakistan received 1.2million doses of the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine. Last month, the country opened registration for Pakistanis of and above the age of 30. The government’s plan is to inoculate 70million people–around 70 per cent of the vaccine-eligible adult population–by the end of 2021.

Vaccination Centres

The NCOC is trying to speed up the process of vaccination in Pakistan. For this purpose, capacity is being enhanced and new spaces are being added to make it feasible for the masses.

Sindh has a total of 250 vaccination centres with the biggest vaccination space in at Expo Centre Karachi. It was opened in the second week of May and has a capacity for inoculating 25,000- 30,000 people per day. Punjab is leading the charts in terms of vaccinating its population. The biggest centre in the province is the Expo Centre Lahore. Here is an official list of all vaccination centres across Pakistan which you can visit.
