EU leaders officially sign post-Brexit UK trade deal

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel have signed the long-awaited post-Brexit trade deal. Following their signature, the agreement was then flown to London where UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed the deal, while the Queen gave her approval to the EU, her signature putting the UK-EU deal into British law.

“The destiny of this great country now resides firmly in our hands. We take on this duty with a sense of purpose and with the interests of the British public at the heart of everything we do. 11pm on 31 December marks a new beginning in our country’s history and a new relationship with the EU as their biggest ally. This moment is finally upon us and now is the time to seize it,” Boris Johnson said, following the agreement.

Keir Starmer, the Labour Party’s leader had said, prior to the deal, had said, “So we will vote for this Bill today but I do hope that this will be a moment where our country can come together and look to a better future.”
