ECC approves $17.3m to clear Roosevelt Hotel liabilities

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) chaired by the Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin approved $17.3 million grant to clear the liabilities of the Roosevelt Hotel.

The ECC also approved the provision of 500,000 metric tons of wheat to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Wheat will be supplied to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) reserves, according to media reports.

The ECC approved foreign aid policy for NGOs. A grant of Rs274 million was also approved for state televisions and news agency.

The meeting was informed about operational loss of petrol through pipeline and the ECC approved 0.5 percent operational loss.

It also approved technical grants for federal ministries, the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority and supplementary grant for the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

Moreover, the sources said that the policy relating to foreign funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) also came under discussion and it was later approved after deliberations.

In January, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) had said that it will challenge and save its New York’s Roosevelt Hotel being evaluated by the British Virgin Islands (BVI) court to settle the Reko Diq case as it was mortgaged against the deal.

In this regard, the PIA officials had sought help from high court lawyers to fight the case.
