Doors open for Amir if he takes retirement back, says Misbah

Head coach Misbah-ul-Haq on Saturday gave a clear message to fast bowler Mohammad Amir – if he takes his retirement back and performs well, the door is open for him to make comeback like every other player.

The head coach of Pakistan cricket team was talking to media before ahead of the tour of England and the West Indies.

There are rumours that speedster Mohammad Amir is making a comeback. Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in December 2020 after accusing Misbah of mistreatment. The relations between Misbah and Amir are still strained.

Misbah denied that he had anything personal with Amir. “I am unable to understand why the issue is being made controversial,” he added.

The head coach said Amir was dropped from the team because of his injuries and constant poor performance.

The former Test captain said that Amir made his Test return under his captaincy and he can do it again if he performs and stays fit.

“Unfortunately, we had to select the squad before PSL6 for the upcoming tour due to logistics issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic,” he added.

Misbah also hinted that changes could be made to the squads for England and the West Indies if logistics permit.

Pakistan squad for England and West Indies tours will assemble on June 20 in Lahore, where they will stay in complete isolation till June 25. The touring party will play three ODIs and as many T20Is match series against England and five T20Is and two Test matches against the West Indies.
