‘Don’t play politics, give us justice’: Tareen asks govt to make inquiry report public

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Khan Tareen has warned the government against playing politics over the cases against him, saying that the inquiry report by Senator Ali Zafar that is allegedly in favour of Tareen should be made public.

The estranged PTI leader, who enjoys the support of at least 30 PTI lawmakers, had announced the formation of a separate group of “likeminded” party leaders earlier this month. Tareen has fallen out with Prime Minister Imran Khan and his party over the registration of cases against him in the light of a sugar commission report.

Speaking to media outside a banking court in Lahore, Tareen said Zafar was appointed by Imran Khan to investigate allegations against him. “I have a lot of respect for Zafar. He worked hard and complete the inquiry. I was expecting the report would be made public by now,” said Tareen, questioning the delay in making the report public.

According to Tareen, there are reports that Zafar’s “verbal report” to the premier is in his favour. “Imran promised [us that] justice will be done. I should get justice by now,” he said, urging Imran to make the report public.

In response to a question that the Punjab government was using delaying tactics to get the budget passed, he said the government should not play politics with him or his supporters and give them justice instead.

Meanwhile, the courts have extended Tareen and his son Ali Tareen’s bail till June 11.
