COVID-19 claims 84 lives, 3,452 people in critical condition

At least 84 people have died due to coronavirus and 1,923 were infected with the novel coronavirus during the past 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Centre said on Saturday.

Out of 84 people, 33 died on ventilators while 3,452 patients are in critical condition. At least 424 ventilators are occupied across Pakistan. Punjab reported 47 deaths followed by Sindh with 16 deaths. At least 21,189 people have succumbed to the coronavirus since the virus hit Pakistan in Feb last year.

As of June 5, the total number of active COVID cases in Pakistan is 48,937. The government conducted a little over 50,000 tests and the positivity rate was recorded at 3.81 per cent. In Sindh, 14,937 tests were conducted; in Punjab, 21,390 tests were conducted; in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 8,078 tests were conducted. In Islamabad, 3,331 tests were conducted. Balochistan witnessed 1,652 tests while Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir conducted 331 and 674 tests, respectively.
