The coronavirus pandemic driven by Omicron variant has been on the rise in Pakistan also as the country reported more than 3,000 coronavirus cases for the first time since September 12, 2021, the National Command and Operations Centre’s (NCOC) data showed on Thursday morning.
According to the NCOC, the country registered 3,019 more cases in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 1.31 million. The positivity ratio has reached 6.12 percent, the highest in more than four months, as the infection rate was last above it on September 8, 2021.
Five people died due to coronavirus, taking the death toll to 28,992, according to NCOC figures.
Meanwhile, the NCOC has revised the quarantine policy for inbound air passengers.
According to the new guidelines, centralised quarantine arrangements for inbound passengers who are positive after rapid antigen testing (RAT) have been abolished forthwith.
“Now, all passengers detected as positive in RAT on arrival at airports/border terminals will self-isolate themselves for ten days (home quarantine),” the NCOC said.
The forum instructed to shift passengers currently quarantined at centralised locations accordingly.
