Coronavirus: Number of deaths, positivity rate falls due to smart lockdown

Due to government’s strategy to impose smart lockdown to control spread of coronavirus, the number of casualties and positive cases has fallen.

Pakistan reported 57 deaths and 3,613 new COVID-19 cases – less than 4,000 daily infections for the fourth consecutive day – in the last 24 hours.

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data on Monday morning showed that 3,613 new cases had been found from 57,131 tests and a positivity rate at 6.32 percent.

The total number of positive cases since the pandemic started now stands at 1,182,918.

With 57 fatalities over the last 24 hours, the country’s death has risen to 26,232.

In the last 24 hours, 3,438 people recovered from the coronavirus, taking the count for recoveries to 1,064,319. The number of active cases is 92,367.

Pakistan has administered at least 59,384,758 doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far. Assuming every person needs two doses, that’s enough to have vaccinated about 13.7 percent of the country’s population.

During the last week, Pakistan averaged about 1,072,051 doses each day. At that rate, it will take a further 41 days to administer enough doses for another 10 percent of the population.
