The meeting of education ministers scheduled for today to decide on whether to close schools in view of a surge in Omicron cases has been put off, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training said on Thursday.
The ministry’s notification was circulated shortly before the scheduled start of 11am of the meeting.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, announced that Shafqat Mehmood will chair the 34th meeting of the Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC).
FAWAD RULES OUT CLOSURE: On Tuesday, while briefing the media on the decisions taken by the federal cabinet in its weekly meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that Pakistan would not undergo another lockdown and dismissed reports of the closure of schools despite rising coronavirus cases.
The information minister had said the federal cabinet was informed that the COVID-19 positivity ratio had doubled in the country.
“But despite this, it is our resolve that we absolutely not impose a lockdown in Pakistan. Our economy cannot bear the burden [of another lockdown],” he said.
