KARACHI: A security guard sustained injuries when two groups clashed outside the coronavirus vaccination center set up at Expo Center causing suspension of the process on Saturday.
The clash started over reported jumping of a long queue by some people outside the hall number 4 as a result of which glass door was broken and a guard injured when he tried to intervene.
There were long queues outside the Expo Centre on Saturday, the biggest vaccination center in the city, after the provincial government announced the blocking of SIM cards of unvaccinated citizens.
The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) had set August 31 last date for hotels and restaurants workers, employees of the train service, public transport, government offices and those working at shops and markets to get vaccinated. The NCOC warned that those who failed to get vaccinated would not be allowed to work.
The Sindh government had also imposed a lockdown till August 8 as the province continues to battle the dangerous surge in COVID-19 infections.
Later, spokesman for the Sindh government Murtaza Wahab said at a press conference that it was owing to the decisions, including the blocking of mobile SIMs, taken by the Sindh government that had led to a manifold increase in the vaccination process.
