China warns US of crossing ‘red line’

"The Chinese government has no room for compromise or concessions on the Taiwan issue," stated China's Foreign Minister.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned the United States government against crossing the ‘insurmountable red line’ that is Taiwan.

“The Chinese government has no room for compromise or concessions on the Taiwan issue,” stated Wang.

Wang’s speech was part of his address at China’s annual parliamentary session of the National People’s Congress, where he also highlighted issues relating to Europe, Myanmar and The Chinese Foreign Minister advocated for the move regarding Hong Kong electoral reforms and also addressed China and America’s strained relationship.

“It is hoped that the United States and China will meet each other halfway and lift the various unreasonable restrictions placed on Sino-US cooperation to date as soon as possible, and not create new obstacles artificially,” Wang said.

Previously, Wang urged Washington to respect China’s internal affairs and stop meddling in Taiwan.

“Over the past few years, the United States basically cut off bilateral dialogue at all levels. We stand ready to have candid communication with the U.S. side, and engage in dialogues aimed at solving problems,” he had said.
