Cabinet reshuffled ahead of PDM rally; Sheikh Rashid appointed Minister for Interior

Four new Cabinet appointments have been announced by the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister’s Office has approved changes in the Cabinet portfolio and appointed Sheikh Rashid as Minister for Interior. This decision comes just two days before the Lahore rally by Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of opposition parties.

Azam Khan Swati has been given charge of Railway, while Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmed Shah has been assigned the portfolio of Minister for Narcotics Control. Dr Abdul Hafeez Shiekh has been appointed as the Minister for Finance. He has been working as an advisor for the prime minister.

Previously, Sheikh Rasheed was Minister for Railways and Azam Khan Swati was Minister for Narcotics Control. Brig (R) Ijaz Ahmed Shah was the Minister for Interior, while Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh was an Advisor to the Prime Minister.

Political analysts suggest that Sheikh Rashid has been given the new appointment to control the growing agitation of the opposition parties, and ensure enforcement of coronavirus SOPs.
