Bomb blast averted in Rawalpindi, three terrorists arrested

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab arrested three terrorists involved in four bomb blasts in Rawalpindi in 2020, including the Pir Wadhai bomb blast on December 4.

In an intelligence based operation in Rawalpindi today, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab arrested three terrorists involved in 4 bomb blasts in Rawalpindi in 2020, including the Pir Wadhai bomb blast on December 4. The terrorists were preparing to conduct another bomb blast on Islamabad Stock Exchange, which was disrupted by the CTD, according to a spokesman of the department.

The CTD Rawalpindi Team was informed by sources that three terrorists were hiding on Adyala-Kharakan Road along Swan River Rawalpindi. Based on this information, alongside evidence collected from the Pir Wadhai crime scene, CTD raided the place & arrested three terrorists. Their names have not been disclosed to protect the ongoing investigation. Explosives, detonators, cell phones and other articles were recovered from the hideout.

Upon initial investigation, the terrorist disclosed that they committed four bomb blasts in Rawalpindi in January, March, June and December 2020, killing four innocent citizens and injuring more than 30 people.

The terrorists claimed to be motivated by the ideology of the Proscribed Organisation Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, they admitted to now be working in exhange of money from masterminds based in Afghanistan. They further elaborated that their group leader was getting funds from Afghanistan for this terrorism.

The terrorist disclosed that they had planned their next attack on the building of Islamabad Stock Exchange, and had already conducted reconnaissance of the target.

First Information Reports (FIRs) against the terrorists have been launched in Police Station CTD Rawalpindi, and an investigation has been launched to unearth the entire terrorist network.
