Biden warns China will ‘eat our lunch’ if US doesn’t ‘get moving’

The United States confrontation with China, began during the Trump era, seems to be continuing with President Joe Biden warning that Beijing will “eat our lunch” if America doesn’t “step up” its infrastructure spending.

Biden said during a meeting with members of the Environment and Public Works committee that if the US must have to “get moving”, otherwise they will eat our lunch.

President Biden said they’re investing billions of dollars dealing with a whole range of issues that relate to transportation, the environment and a whole range of other things. “We just have to step up.”

During his presidential campaign, Biden proposed spending $2 trillion over four years to create jobs and invest in clean energy infrastructure.

Earlier, President Biden has a telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jin Ping and discussed several “points of friction” with him.

The White House said President Biden voiced concerns about “coercive and unfair” trade practices, as well as concerns over China’s crackdown in Hong Kong and treatment of Muslims in Xinjiang.

President Xi maintained a hard line on Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Taiwan, calling them matters of “sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

Meanwhile, China’s foreign ministry said in a statement that President Xi told President Biden that “confrontation would be a disaster and the two sides should re-establish the means to avoid misjudgements.”
