Amir-Waqar feud: Is PCB’s statement a confirmation of Amir’s allegation

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reacted sharply on the allegation of star bowler Mohammed Amir who alleged that he has been mentally tortured by the current management.

The same management who was alleged for giving ‘mental torture’ contacted Mohmmed Amir and released their statement saying “This is personal decision of Mohammad Amir, which the PCB respects.”

PCB in a statement said that chief executive Wasim Khan spoke with Mohammad Amir this afternoon after the left-arm pacer announced his retirement from international cricket.

“Wasim asked about the reason for this immediate decision. The 29-year-old confirmed to the PCB chief executive that he has no desires or intentions of playing international cricket and as such, he should not be considered for future international series.”

PCB very conveniently omitted part of Amir’s allegation and portrayed as Amir has taken this decision in a comfortable environment. PCB, therefore, in the last line of the statement said: “This is a personal decision of Mohammad Amir, which the PCB respects, and as such, will not make any further comment on this matter at this stage.”

Muhammad Amir who announced his retirement today said that he cannot tolerate this behaviour from Pakistan’s bowling coach Waqar Younis.

A few days back Waqar Younis, the bowling coach of Pakistan criticised Amir’s decision to retire from Test cricket as Pakistan head coach Waqar Younis claimed that left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir did not retire from Test cricket out of workload issues.

“I don’t think he retired from red-ball cricket due to an increase in workload,” Waqar Younis said. “I recently saw him take part in franchise competitions and he is currently representing Pakistan in the limited-overs format as well. So, it was his own decision to not participate in red-ball cricket.”

Muhammad Amir in reply took a dig at Waqar on social media saying that only Mr. Waqar Younis can tell why he gave this statement.
