Afghan army commander killed in Taliban ambush

Colonel Faridoon Fayaz, the commander of Afghanistan’s 203rd Thunder Corps central command, was killed in a Taliban ambush and one of his bodyguards was wounded on Wednesday morning, a military corps official confirmed.

Afghan media outlet ToloNews quoted officials as saying that Col Fayaz was on his way to his office when Taliban ambushed his convoy.

The incident took place on the Logar-Paktia highway.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
