Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo on Friday took the oath as the new Baluchistan chief minister following his appointment to the office unopposed.

Baluchistan Awami Party (BAP) leader Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo was elected to the chief minister’s office after receiving 39 votes in the Baluchistan Assembly. Governor Baluchistan Zahoor Ahmed Agha administered the oath at the Governor House, Quetta.

The BAM leadership had nominated Bizenjo for the seat following the resignation of Jam Kamal Khan Alyani last week owing to political turmoil in the province.

Attendees present at the oath-taking ceremony include the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Qasim Suri, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, and members of the provincial and national assemblies.

Bizenjo had been backed by PTI Parliamentary Leader Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind, who made the announcement that he was pulling out of the race and supporting Bizenjo for the CM’s position.

PTI’s parliamentary party in the province had nominated Rind for the position of the CM.

Apart from Rind, no other candidate in the provincial assembly had submitted nomination papers to contest against Bizenjo.

Earlier, Bizenjo issued a statement saying, “We will go ahead in consultation with all and take benefit from the experiences of whoever remained the chief minister”.

Bizenjo had expressed his desire to work with other leaders of the province.

The newly-elected chief minister said he had also tried to contact former CM Jam Kamal. He added that he will announce the future policy of his government during the next assembly session.
