40 security personnel, 40 Taliban killed in fresh fighting in Afghanistan

More than 40 Afghan security force members have been killed in fighting with the Taliban during the last 24 hours, says Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) and adds that the majority of casualties reported in Kunduz, Baghlan and Nimroz provinces.

The ministry said in clashes in Kunduz province, security forces killed 40 Taliban and made major advances. Fierce fighting has been going on in the districts of Dasht-e-Arshi and Imam Sahib and some suburbs for the last two days, it added.

The Baghlan-e-Markazi district and suburbs of the provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri of Baghlan province have seen a fresh fighting between the Afghan forces and the Taliban.

The southern Kandahar province’s Panjwai and Arghandab areas have witnessed fighting between the forces and the Taliban.

Khashrud district in Nimroz province also witnessed deadly fighting.

The Afghan forces have dealt a major blow to the Taliban as their commanders have been killed, said Fawad Aman, a deputy spokesman at the Ministry of Defense.

Meanwhile, in Kunduz, the local administration said that more than 20 security personnel have been killed in battles with the Taliban in Dasht-e-Archi district and other areas of the province.

Clashes between Afghan forces and the Taliban reduced in winter season due to severe cold in the country. But this year saw an increase in fighting as peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban is going on in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
