An earthquake of 4.8 magnitude jolted Swat and adjoining areas, on Sunday.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that the epicentre of the earthquake is close to Afghanistan’s Hindukush Region and its depth was reported at 120km.

No casualties have been reported so far. People in the region rushed out of their houses after feeling the tremors, ensuing chaos in the area.

Earlier, another earthquake of 6.4 magnitude struck parts of the country. The jolts were felt in parts of the provinces of Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, along with Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and in Gilgit-Baltistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be in Tajikistan as it struck at a depth of 80 kilometres.

Last month, 20 people died and 300 were injured after an earthquake jolted Balochistan’s Harnai. Shocks were felt in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Zhob, Loralai, Sibbi, Dukki, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, and Muslim Bagh.

Pakistan witnessed the deadliest earthquake in its history in 2005 as 80,000 people died in Azad Kashmir and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The earthquake destroyed thousands of buildings and homes.
