3rd visit since April: Qureshi to visit Turkey on Friday

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will visit Turkey from June 18 to June 20 to participate in Antalya Diplomacy Forum.

It is expected that Qureshi will meet Afghan High Council for Peace Chairperson Abdullah Abdullah and former Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai on the sidelines of the forum. Qureshi will also call on Turkey President Tayyip Erdogan.

During the visit, the foreign minister will also meet the foreign ministers of Poland, Guinea, Tajikistan, Algeria, Libya, Afghanistan, and Qatar. In addition to these meetings, the FM will also meet his Iraqi, Nigerian, Palestinian, Iranian, and Malaysian counterparts.

This will be the third visit of the foreign minster since April this year.

In April this year, Qureshi visited Turkey to boost bilateral cooperation and discuss the Afghan peace process with his Turkish counterpart. The foreign minister’s visit was aimed at evolving a consensus among key stakeholders of the Afghan peace process.

In May, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had visited Turkey to discuss the “worsening situation of Palestine as a result of continued Israeli aggression” with the Turkish president and the foreign minister. He had lauded Turkey’s “firm stance for the people of Palestine” and thanked President Erdogan for “strong support for the oppressed people in Indian occupied Kashmir and Palestine”.
