32 killed in Peru bus plunge

This is Peru’s third transport accident in four days involving multiple victims.

32 passengers have died, including two children, and more than 20 were injured after a bus fell from a cliff in Peru.

The incident happened on Tuesday on a narrow stretch of the Carretera Central road near the capital Lima.

Police commander Cesar Cervantes confirmed the death toll to be 32, including a six-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl.

The death toll is expected to rise as the police department announced on Twitter that a search and rescue effort was underway for possible survivors and to recover bodies.

The commander said that “recklessness” led to the incident, revealing that the bus was going at high speeds.

According to survivors, it hit a rock and plunged 250 metres (650 feet) down.

There were a total of 63 passengers on the bus.

This is the country’s third transport accident in four days involving multiple victims.

22 people died on Sunday when two boats collided on the Amazon river in Peru, and two days earlier, another bus fell into a ravine killing 17 people.
