More than 30 soldiers were killed and 60 wounded in Houthi strikes on the al-Anad military base in southwest Yemen.
The base belonged to the Saudi-led coalition.
Yemeni southern forces spokesman Mohamed al-Naqeeb confirmed the news, putting the death toll between 30 to 40 soldiers.
He added that the toll may rise as rescuers are still clearing the scene.
According to him, the Houthis have used armed drones and ballistic missiles to carry out attacks on the al-Anad military base.
Medical sources confirmed that several bodies arrived at the Lahj province’s main hospital accompanied by 16 wounded people.
Residents of the al-Anad area aid that several loud blasts were heard. Other residents from the central city of Taiz said that they heard ballistic missiles fired from the Houthi-held eastern suburbs of the city.
The attacks came at a time when peace talks between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis have failed.
The war between the Saudi coalition and the Houthis began in 2014 when the Houthis ousted the government of Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in Sanaa.
A coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates intervened in March 2015 to restore Hadi to power.
