11 killed in India from torrential rain and landslides

Rain monsoon

Torrential rains killed eleven people in India, an official confirmed on Saturday.

The rainstorms have swept away homes and triggered landslides taking the death tally to 230.

After rainwater gushed into their homes, four people were electrocuted into their homes, state disaster management minister Javed Khan told the media.

Seven people have died, with several missing after the heavy downpour washed their houses away, said Javed Khan.

In Jharkhand State, after five days of heavy rain, scores of cars have been submerged in floodwaters.

A landslide killed seven people in Himachal Pradesh, and another seven died in an intense storm that hit the village of Honzar in Indian Kashmir.

Experts have noted that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of annual monsoon storms.
