Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of the People’s Party (PPP) re-joining the opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Talking to journalists in Islamabad accountability court, he categorically said: “I don’t think so” the PPP would join the opposition movement.

On the possibility of an in-house change, he said: “God willing, it will be better.”

He said he has been calling the government “incompetent” from day one and the time has proven it. “The government is incapable of doing anything for people.”

About the call of march to Islamabad by Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, the former president said: “Maulana Fazal used to march before.”

PRE-ARREST BAIL: Meanwhile, the accountability court granted the former president pre-arrest bail in a New York property case in which he was investigated for having the money to buy the luxury apartment.

Judge Bashir Ahmed announced the reserved verdict. The National Accountability Bureau was investigating how and when money was sent abroad to buy the luxury flats in New York. It argued that Zardari did not declare the property when revealing his assets.

The NAB will not be able to arrest the former president till the inquiry is completed, the court said. It will need permission from the court to arrest him in the case, the verdict said.

Asif Zardari appeared in court with his medical records on Tuesday.
