The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s objections against the filing of Yusuf Raza Gilani’s nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections.
The former prime minister has been nominated as the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)’s joint candidate for the polls.
The PTI has raised objection against the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) representative’s nomination, with PTI leader Fareed Rehman alleging that Gilani “hid facts” in his nomination papers.
In a hearing regarding the matter on Wednesday, Gilani’s lawyer said that he had completed the sentence given to him by the Supreme Court and was eligible to run for elections. He told the ECP that Yusuf Raza Gilani’s disqualification ended in 2017.
Returning Officer (RO) announced the verdict on Thursday, clearing Yusuf Raza Gilani for contesting the Senate elections on March 3.
