The recent surge of COVID-19 in India has raised serious concerns over the hosting of T20 Word Cup this year as a few members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) have expressed their reservations about traveling to India in the current scenario.
ICC events and the logistic team is due to travel to India at the end of this month to take a look at the venues and arrangements but it is likely to be canceled considering the current scenario.
A few members are of the opinion that the tournament should be shifted to Australia. ICC already has earmarked UAE as a back up plan if the situation worsens in India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is confident of staging the tournament in its own backyard. Currently, the Indian Premier League is being played in the country without crowds and under strict bio-secure measures.
It is also pertinent to mention that last year, the T20 World Cup was due to b played in Australia but was postponed due to the pandemic.
