A week after a shoe was thrown at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal in Islamabad, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill was pelted with eggs and ink outside the Lahore High Court on Monday.
According to media reports, two eggs and ink were thrown at Gill, who is the special assistant to the prime minister on political communication, on the premises of the high court by a worker reportedly belonging to the PML-N. The PML-N supporter was taken into custody by the police personnel present at the spot.
After the incident, a clash broke out between the workers of the PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gathered outside the court. Subsequently, the court adjourned that the hearing till March 30 and excused the PM’s aide from appearance in the next hearing.
Before his appearance, Gill had tweeted that he had come to know through his journalist friends that the PML-N “goons” were planning to attack him during the court visit. He said he was not afraid of them and would still appear before the court.
Gill had appeared in the high court on a petition challenging a criminal case Islampura police registered against two Turkish citizens on the complaint of Gill. According to the plea, Gill had used his political influence to register a false case against the petitioners.
The police had registered the FIR on Jan 13 against the petitioners under sections 419, 420, 468, and 471 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
A criminal complaint under defamation charge is also pending against Gill by M/s Platform Turizm Tasimacilik, a subsidiary of Al-Bayrak Group of companies, reported a local media outlet.
