KARACHI: Uzair Baloch was acquitted on Thursday in two criminal cases by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) as police officials failed to present any concrete evidence against him before the court.

The court accepted an application forwarded by the accused, seeking his acquittal in the cases of attempted murder and police encounter as registered by the Kalakot and the Chakiwara police.

Baloch had been accused of committing 198 murders during the Lyari gang war. He was arrested by the Rangers on January 30, 2016.

In April 2017, he was transferred to the custody of the Pakistan Army after he was accused of espionage. The Army handed him back to the police on April 6, 2020.
