Gaza received around 20,000 coronavirus vaccines from the United Arab Emirates on Sunday. According to reports, this shipment has been propagated by an opponent of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.
Mohammed Dahlan, a former core member of Mahmud Abbas’ party, made an announcement last week regarding the delivery of vaccines, terming them as a ‘generous grant’. Dahlan is currently exiled in the UAE.
The AFP news agency revealed that the vaccines, Russian-made Sputnik V, were transferred through the Rafah crossing with Egypt, and not through Israel.
Israel has been accused of blocking vaccination access to Gaza, which Hamas deems as a violation of international law. The United Nations has instructed Israel to ensure inoculations to Palestinians in both Gaza and West Bank.
