Pakistani judoka Shah Hussain Shah has lost fight against Egypt’s Darwish Ramadan in the 100 kilogram weight category in the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday.

Egypt’s Darwish Ramadan who is World No 13 has beaten Shah Hussain Shah in the match and qualified for the next round. The Pakistani judoka’s Olympics journey ended after he lost his first fight against Darwish.

Shah Hussain could survive just three minutes and nine seconds as Darwish performed an ‘ippon’ on him to win the match.

An ippon is a move in judo when one competitor throws the other ‘on his back with impetus and control’. An ippon is enough to win a match in one move.

Shah was one of Pakistan’s biggest hope to bag a medal.

This was the second time that he was featuring in the Olympics — Shah made a poor debut in 2016 in the Rio Games when he was beaten by Ukraine’s Artem Bloshenko in the second round.

Coronavirus took a toll on Shah as he missed a few major events before the Olympics because of the travel restrictions due to COVID-19.

Shah Hussain is the third Pakistani athlete after badminton player Mahoor Shahzad and swimmer Haseeb Tariq who have been eliminated from the Tokyo Olympics.
