A third-grader was sexually assaulted at her school in Lahore’s Nishtar Colony, the police said Friday.
The assault on the minor happened nine days ago, according to the family. “On June 21, my daughter came back home from her school at 10am and immediately went to bed,” the survivor’s mother said.
When the eight-year-old woke up, she told her parents that a man at the school raped her. The third-grader added that her teachers threatened to expel her if she told anyone about it.
A case has been registered at the Nishtar Colony police station under Section 376 (Punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
On Thursday, the child’s medical reports corroborated the rape. A teacher has been detained for questioning, the investigating officer said, adding that further investigations are underway.

PM’s remarks
Recently, PM Imran Khan drew wide criticism for saying that clothes and morality of the victim impact chances of sexual assault and violence. “If a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on the men, unless they are robots. It’s just common sense,” Imran Khan said in an interview with ‘Axios on HBO’. “This is cultural imperialism. Whatever is acceptable in our culture, must be accepted everywhere else. It’s not,” he added.
Imran Khan had previously resisted public pressure to sack CCPO Lahore Umar Sheikh. Sheikh gained public and media attention in September 2020 for his handling of the Sialkot-Lahore Motorway gang-rape case when he criticised the survivor for her choice of traveling route and time. He was defended for his comments by Asad Umar, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.
