South Africa’s squad has suffered a huge blow as their newly-appointed captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the four-match home T20I series against Pakistan with a hamstring strain.

He got this injury while playing in the third ODI in Super Sports Park Centurion. Henrich Klassen will lead the side in his absence. The wicket-keeper batsmen was also the captain of the T20 side when South Africa toured Pakistan earlier this year. Andile Phehlukwayo, Wiaan Mulder, and Daryn Dupavillon have also been added to the squad

South Africa already have a depleted squad with their five players already gone to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Reeza Hendricks has withdrawn his name from the squad after the birth of his first child.

In-form Rassie Van Der Dussen is also a suspect for the first T20. The right hander suffered a grade one left quadriceps strain and didn’t feature in the final ODI.

The T20 series against Pakistan is due to start from April 10 in Johannesburg.

South Africa T20 squad:

Heinrich Klaasen (captain), Bjorn Fortuin, Aiden Markram, Andile Phehlukwayo, Beuran Hendricks, George Linde, Rassie van der Dussen, Janneman Malan, Sisanda Magala, Wiaan Mulder, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lutho Sipamla, Kyle Verreynne, Pite van Biljon, Daryn Dupavillon, Migael Pretorius, Lizaad Williams, Wihan Lubbe.
