On Tuesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) ordered the bull-dozing of the illegal chambers of lawyers on Islamabad’s F8 ground.

The court dismissed the appeal filed by the Islamabad Bar Council and upheld the verdict of the Islamabad High Court. On Friday, the SCP had restrained the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from demolishing the illegal chambers of lawyers till the next hearing.

The lawyers have been asked to find an alternate space for their offices.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that, “All illegal chambers must be demolished. If someone wants to practice, then that person can open their office somewhere else.”

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer Shoaib Shaheeh said that already many courts have been built on the football ground.

On this, CJP said that those offices should be demolished too. The court has given the lawyers two months to move their chambers.

On February 8, a group of lawyers had attacked the building of the Islamabad High Court. They vandalised the court building and also broke the windows of Justice Athar Minallah’s chambers. This assault at the court came in the aftermath of the operations carried out by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to demolish the encroachments.
