Pakistan on Friday strongly condemned the annihilation of multiple mosques, shops, and houses of Muslims by radical Hindutva mobs in Tripura, India.
The Foreign Office issued the statement after a fresh wave of anti-Muslim violence spread in India, which resulted in the burning down of at least six mosques and more than a dozen houses and shops owned by Muslims in the BJP-led Tripura state within the last few days.
According to reports, the attacks were carried out by Hindutva groups namely RSS, VHP, and Bajrang Dal across the state during protests in retaliation to violence in Bangladesh.
The FO said that according to reports the state machinery has not only failed to safeguard Muslims and their properties but also remained non-responsive to desperate calls for help by the local Muslim organizations.
The statement said, “It is reprehensible that the Hindutva driven BJP-RSS combine has a track record of conducting massacres and systemic human rights violations of Muslims under its watch, from Gujarat in 2002 to New Delhi in 2020. In today’s India, there is little space for minorities and their way of life,” it added.
As per the statement by FO the unrelenting targeting and brutal eviction of Muslim citizens from their decades-old homes in Assam are equally condemnable.
The Foreign Office called upon the global community to play its role in stopping the growing tide of Islamophobia and attacks against minorities, particularly Muslims in India, and to ensure their safety, security as well as well-being, and protection of their places of worship and heritage sites.
