The Ministry of Federal Education has authorised private publishers to print primary school books as per the single national curriculum (SNC), which will be taught at primary classes across Pakistan from August 2021.
“On the direction of Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has issued a letter to all provincial and area governments regarding Single National Curriculum Textbook Policy today,” said a statement issued by the ministry.
According to the SNC policy, private publishers must develop the books in accordance to the Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) outlined in the curriculum. To be authorised for publication, a textbook must be issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) by the provincial textbook board.
The ministry advised all textbook boards to diligently ensure that private publishers produce books strictly in accordance with the SNC. They are to ensure that no anti-Pakistan, anti-religion, or other controversial content is included in the books. The ministry also directed them to ensure there are no administrative delays or complications in issuing NOCs.
Concerned authorities have been informed that the new academic session for students will begin in August 2021, while exams will be held in May-June, following an extension in the schedule.
The Ministry of Federal Education developed the SNC for primary students in consultation with provincial governments and other stakeholders. The curriculum is to be followed by public and private schools across the country from the next academic year.
According to the ministry’s plan, books based on the single national curriculum will be introduced for classes 6 to 8 in 2022, and for classes 9 to 12 in 2023.
