Provincial Local Governments Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has said that local elections will be held in Sindh in February or March.

Talking to journalists at the Sukkur Press Club, the minister said the provincial government was ready for local government elections, but listening to the claims and announcements of the federal government.

Nasir Shah criticised the federal government and said its claims and announcements indicated that it was preparing to go home.

He claimed that the federal government wanted to extend its five-year term through a presidential ordinance.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold local elections in phases.

KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA: Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is likely to go to local government elections in November.

The provincial government officials informed the Election Commission (ECP) last week about the decision on local elections.

The ECP is expected to decide on the date of the elections in its October 14 meeting after the KP provincial government submits a report on the phased conduct of local government elections.
